PSG recap

As with the past two weeks, Bordeaux are still the reigning frontrunners of the French top-tier football for the 2014-15 season. Caen, the newly promoted side who clinched the top spot in the season’s opening fixtures, have since become more inconsistent and they are now down to the ninth spot. Defending champions PSG, meanwhile, are now in the second place following a clean sheet victory against Saint-Etienne at the back of mediocre season debut and a goalless encounter with Evian TG on week three.

Although the Girondins dominate the present standings, it was the Parisians who took the largest slice of success from the most recent match week. The 5-0 rout they inflicted against Saint-Etienne is by far the best result a club were able to achieve in the new season. Other winners of the week were Marseille, Rennes, Lens, Lorient, Nantes, Toulouse, and Metz, which consequently produced losers such as Nice, Caen, Reims, Guingamp, Montpellier, Evian, and Lyon. Monaco, Lille, Bordeaux, and Bastia all picked up one point (each) from their respective fixtures.

PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored three goals in the past week, bringing in his total earnings to five which would rank him as the season’s top goals scorer so far. He is followed by six other players, namely Mevlut Erding of Saint-Etienne, Andre-Pierre Gignac of Marseille, Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon, Valentin Lavigne of Lorient, Diego Rolan of Bordeaux, and Ola Toivonen of Rennes—each flaunting three goals. Lyon’s Jordan Ferri, meanwhile, is currently the competition’s top assister with three successful passes to his name.
