Sevilla may have not won La Liga last season, but they actually achieved bigger success on a continental level. Feyenoord, by contrast, finished as runners up in Eredivisie but failed to make substantial spectacles in their European campaign.

Sevilla

The reigning champions of the Europa League, Sevilla are both excited and pressured to defend their title. Needless to say, the past season was one of the high points for the Spanish squad, dominating their battles against other powerhouses clubs such as Porto, Valencia, and Benfica. This was in spite of their moderate struggles with their finances. They finished their domestic campaign with a final score of 63 points to rank higher than 15 other sides, including Villarreal, Celta Vigo, and Malaga. They have also quite been successful in their summer friendlies, having won five matches out of eight.

Feyenoord

Feyenoord entered last season’s Europa League battles via the play-off round, where they were beaten on both legs by Kuban Krasnodar and left the tilt prematurely. It was a very disappointing result for the Dutch superpower especially considering that they were champions in two earlier editions of the tournament (in 1974 and 2002 when it was still under the ‘UEFA Cup’ brand). As for their most recent battles, their performances have been mediocre at best. Their past nine matches have only produced two victories and incurred them with four stalemates and three defeats.

Europa League betting tip: Sevilla will kick off their campaign to defend their title with a victory against Feyenoord.
