EURO 2016 Qualifiers Preview: Croatia vs. Malta

Updated: September 3, 2014
Croatia-Mario Mandzukic

Match Date: 09 September 2014

Venue: Stadion Maksimir, Zagreb

The contenders

There is no doubt that Croatia is one of the top picks of sports betting sites in the European Championship.

Despite its early exit in the World Cup, the squad is known for its depth and quality. Many of its members play in big European outfits, which give them the experience, exposure and playing time that they need in order to survive or better yet, dominate in an international competition.

In 1996 and 2008, Croatia managed to qualify in the quarter-finals and have been regulars in the Group Stage, except in 2000 when it failed to qualify.

Malta will be needing tons of guts and skills to survive the onslaught that awaits them. The squad is pitted against a more experienced Croatia and there is a high possibility for them to stumble in the tournament opening.

The Reds have never qualified in the European Championship since its entry in 1960. Most of the times, the team falls short of expectations. However, this does not mean that the club lacks talent. But they need to push a little bit more in order for them to feature in the upcoming competition.

Possible head turner

Mario Mandzukic, who seems to have a good time at Atletico Madrid is expected to continue his impressive run. Midfielders, Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric may also feature. Likewise, expect Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren to pump up the squad’s defence.

The best bet

Evidently, Croatia is the best bet in this particular encounter.
