The Netherlands and Kazakhstan have never played in the same pitch for any international title. In any case, this meeting should yield some interesting displays.

One of the most consistent sides in international tournaments, Netherlands could serve a dangerous opponent to any other side pitted against them—even for the likes of Belgium and Brazil whom they trounced in the World Cup last summer. However, some things did not just turn out well for the team in their debut performance at the Euro 2016 qualifications. They conceded two goals to Czech Republic and scored only one, making the result one of the notable upsets in the tournament. The dramatic loss came very late in the battle, to the dismay of the Dutch squad.

“I had to take myself into seclusion,” said the frustrated Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink. “In the final seconds of a match you should never ever lose. We were able to just walk out of here with a 1-1 draw. We gave it away so stupidly.”

Dropping two points and scoring zero goals, Kazakhstan made a lackluster debut in the Group round of Euro qualifications. While there was undoubtedly no question about their defense, it was in their attack that the problem arose. They failed to stun Latvia with at least one goal and a home advantage for the players made the frustration even more pronounced.

“We really wanted to win but unfortunately were not able to convert at least one of our opportunities,” remarked Kazakhstan midfielder Samot Smakov. “I cannot blame any of my team-mates—they all gave everything tonight. We fought and did everything to cheer our fans and live up to their expectations.”

Football betting tip: Netherlands will redeem themselves by winning against Kazakhstan.
