Bulgaria and Croatia’s last meeting was held more than nine years ago in a World Cup qualifier, which means that the sides’ respective ensembles have been largely changed since. At that juncture, Croatia won all the spoils. This time around, will the same result take place?

Bulgaria made an impressive debut to the Group round of the Euro 2016 qualifications with a victory against Azerbaijan 1-2. A late Ventsislav Hristov goal gave the squad full access to all three points, with a tactical plan laid out for them considered as the main reason behind the success. This counts as Bulgaria’s second win in three matches, with the preceding battle having ended in a draw.

“I knew how Azerbaijan play football. Our goal during the match was to create as many chances to score as possible but it didn’t mean that we would score them all,” shared team coach Luboslav Penev.

Croatia started their campaign off with three points in their slate, thanks to a clean victory against Malta. The sides were held goalless in the first half of the encounter, but Croatia soon picked up immediately into the second period. They scored twice between the 46th and 81st minutes, with Luka Modric opening the tally and Andrej Kramaric rounding up the win.

“It was not an easy match for us, it was difficult. Malta were defending very well, even when they were down to ten players. But we opened the second half with the goal and that made our job much easier,” said Modric.

Online betting tip: Croatia will carry the day at the expense of Bulgaria.
