EURO 2016 QUALIFIERS REVIEW (Group D): Poland Scores 7; Dominates Group D

Updated: September 17, 2014

Qualifying highlights

Just because Die Mannschaft won the coveted the World Cup trophy and the online betting favorite, already meant that they will be the sole focus of the EURO limelight. But, yes, they did impress during the first qualifying day. However, there are other squads, whose show of force was purely spectacular.
Alright, Germany did feature against Scotland. The talismanic striker, Thomas Muller scored a double, which salvaged the squad from a possible stalemate.

Yet, back in the Republic of Ireland, it was Aiden McGeady, who  really stood out in the match against Georgia. Similar to Muller, he also scored 2 crucial goals.

But if there is any squad that put up a good show, it was Poland. The team easily destroyed Gibraltar with 7 goals and a clean sheet for that matter. The result of the said match can be fairly described as one of the biggest defeats that ever happened during the kick-off of the European qualifier.

Whilst it is true that Muller’s skills are worthy of plaudits and recognition, it will be such a shame to ignore Robert Lewandowski’s performance.

Lewandowski was the man against the thrashing of Gibraltar. The talismanic striker neither scored once nor twice. Instead, he netted 4 massive goals in leading Poland’s European campaign.

The blunders

Despite the win, Germany suffered an injury in its first qualifying match. Marco Reus incurred an injury, which may sidelined him in the next qualifying encounters and apparently, his absence creates a major setback in the form and depth of the World Cup champion.

What to expect

All eyes are set on the World Cup king, Germany. Many are eager to know if the squad can replicate what Spain did. Right after winning the World Cup in 2010, Spain continued its dominance in the European territory in 2012 and this is something that Germany wants to emulate.
