EURO 2016 Preview: Serbia vs. Albania

Updated: October 13, 2014

Match Date: 14 October 2014 (local time)

Venue: FK Partizan, Belgrade

Serbia will try to prove its detractors wrong as they attempt to clinch a crucial victory at home and increase their chances of advancing into the next stage of the competition. Such motivation is triggered after receiving “insulting” comments from their very own supporters.

The contenders

On a closer look, Serbia’s even steven finish against Armenia will hardly cause a major panic within the squad. Considering the fact that it was their first qualifying match, the stalemate could have been easily forgiven.

However, many of its supporters were readily dissatisfied with the result and ended up bashing the national team in the World Wide Web. The said incident did not escape the scrutinizing eyes of Aleksander Kolarov, who stressed that the group is not getting the “right kind of support.”

As for its head honcho, Dick Advocaat, the manager was readily aware of the club’s shortcomings and explained that they will be preparing well for their clash against Albania.

Once again, Albania impressed when the squad forced a dominant Denmark into a stalemate.

The draw earned the team a point and paved way for their rise in the 2nd spot of the Group I table.

Prior to the said encounter, Albania hit the headlines when it stole the spotlight against the heavy sports betting favorite, Portugal during their first qualifying match.

Possible head turners

Albania’s Edgar Cani is yet to score a point in the team’s current matches. However, one should always keep an eye on him. It will be an unforgiving act to let one’s defenses down against a certified scoring machine.
