EURO 2016 Preview: Estonia vs. England

Match Date: 12 October 2014 (local time)
Venue: Lillekula Stadium
An impressive run during the first leg of the qualifiers will inspire Estonia and England to collect more wins to qualify in the next round of the competition. However, prior to their encounter, both squads need to face a tough challenge from San Marino and Lithuania.
The contenders
Estonia
Estonia’s last minute strike earned them a victory against Slovenia. The match that could have ended in a scoreless stalemate turned out to be one of their most memorable victories.
Considering the challenge that they went through against Slovenia, it is less likely that Estonia will put off an easy win for Lithuania, more so, if England is their opponent. The most likely scenario is for them to exploit their home court advantage. However, they cannot be too complacent since England has been pitted as the match’s online betting favorite.
England
As mentioned, prior to Estonia, England is expected to win the encounter against the minnow San Marino and hopefully, retain its winning momentum.
The Three Lions’ upcoming matches will be a test not only to the team’s stability, but also to Wayne Rooney’s leadership. The Manchester United forward has been hailed as the national squad’s team captain after Steven Gerrard’s retirement.
England looks pretty strong in this particular clash. This is despite missing the presence of Daniel Sturridge, who will be sidelined after incurring an injury during the training.
Possible head turners
Aside from Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Adam Lallana are also expected to feature in the upcoming match. Estonia should try to contain these three if they are indeed, determined to advance.
Prediction
Estonia 1-2 England
