Against a backdrop of the mighty Štadión Pasienky, a scorching derby between home Slovan Bratislava and away Ludogorets Razgrad will get supporters spirited this July 18. The tournament will be held to determine which side will achieve the 2013 UEFA Champions League distinction.

The past five matches of both teams may be seen as warm-up performances in that the energies they unleashed seemed a little held back. Slovan finished with a draw in its match with DAC 1-1 but landed in the danger zone when it battled out against Dukla 1-0. It did, however, lorded over Nitra with a striking final goal of 4-0.

In comparison, Ludogorets lost its momentum in the last two matches it was in. A draw match resulted in its tourney with Beroe but the latter eventually managed to pound its opponent after the game was decided via penalties 3-5. The Eagles were also painfully defeated by Petrolul Ploieşti 1-4 in the preceding match. However, their two earlier matches were a soaring victory, posting 0-3 to overthrow Montana and 2-0 to conquer Botev Plovdiv.

The Hawks, Slovakia’s only European Cup Winners’ Cup titleholders, currently stand at the 171st spot in the UEFA club coefficient rankings, against the Bulgarian Supercup (A Group) champ’s seating at 295. The club coefficient ranking is a cumulative scoring of the teams’ five previous seasons in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The final standings determine the seeding of each club in all UEFA competition draws.

Slovan has traveled light-years to combat in the Champions League and overthrow whoever interrupts in the way. It may be considered as the stronger side in the derby, but a draw match is nevertheless the most probable result of the tournament.
