Manchester United

Manchester United secured seeding in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages thanks to a 0-5 demolition of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. This counts as the side’s fifth unbeaten run in the group stage, after bagging victories three times and drawing twice. Needless to say, the English squad and online betting favorites dominated the table rankings, three points clear of runners up, Shakhtar Donetsk

Shakhtar Donetsk

Three out of five matches they had in the group stage resulted in their opponents not scoring at least one goal, with two clean sheets and one goal-less draw. If not for the defeat 4-0 from Bayer Leverkusen, Shakhtar Donetsk would have made their table placement extremely narrow with Manchester United. But it happened, and while ending up as runners up is not necessarily bad, it was less than satisfying.

Bayer Leverkusen

Currently placed in the bottom half of the Group A table, Bayer Leverkusen were narrowly overtaken by Shakhtar Donetsk—with just one point setting their difference. However, even if the German squad scored the same figure as the Ukrainians, their negative-digit goal difference (courtesy of their 0-5 loss to Manchester United) would have still pulled them down in the standings.

Real Sociedad

The Spanish squad have had an awful run in the Champions League group stage, earning only one point from all their matches. Four out of the five fixtures they engaged in finished in depressing defeats, and the remainder did not even end in a victory. The sole point they picked up from the tournament came from their draw with Manchester United 0-0.
