Champions League Match Preview: Porto vs. Zenit

Updated: October 17, 2013

Match Date: 22 October 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Estadio do Dragao, Porto

Porto trail Atletico Madrid at the second spot in Group G, earning total points of three from two matches. Their group stage curtain raiser saw them win over Austria Wien, which gave them early preference amongst online betting enthusiasts. This, however, was later converted into an embarrassment after the Portistas were thrashed by the current table leaders in their second fixture. Although not entirely surprising, the 1-2 home defeat could loosen up the Portuguese side’s traction in the tournament. Nevertheless, they will continue fighting hard to seize a chance of advancing to the knockout phase, and ultimately, secure seeding in the finals.

The Russian Premier League frontrunners have so far been highly successful in the Champions’ League third qualifying round and play-off stage. Both Nordsjælland and Paços de Ferreira submitted to the assaults of Zenit, where the winning side picked up 14 goals from all the legs arranged for the battles. In the group stage, however, a stark difference from the earlier rounds took Sine-Belo-Golubye by storm. They were defeated at the start of the competitions, securing only two goals and conceding three for Atletico Madrid. Their second match did not help them that well either, only ending their combat with Austria Wien in a draw. This resulted to poor table standing, and being pinned at the bottom will surely not guarantee the side of a reliable future in the continental joist.

Champions League betting tip: In this round, Porto would be able to earn their second victory in the group stage. A struggling Zenit will only manage to create very few chances, while the Portuguese players would probably convert two goals.
