Champions League Match Preview: Arsenal vs. Marseille

Updated: November 19, 2013

Match Date: 26 November 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Emirates Stadium

The Group F of the current season of UEFA Champions League is a pack of extremely magnificent clubs from four major leagues. Arsenal and Marseille, for example, are expertly armed with drills and weapons that serve as emblem to their intense appetite for a continental win.

The sides’ most recent fixture together was a bright light for Arsenal, but a catastrophe for Marseille. The English club assaulted the French players in a 1-2 away finish, proving that The Gunners are indeed ready even during times of great challenge.

Theo Walcott’s volley midway through the second period set the match’s scoring spree. Aaron Ramsey doubled the side’s lead when he scored a goal in the 84th minute, thanks to the agile assist by Kieran Gibbs. A stoppage-time penalty by Marseille’s Jordan Ayew gave the French squad a score, but was no longer sufficient to significantly impact the match’s final result.

Just before Walcott netted his goal, which was triggered by a mistake by Marseille full-back Jeremy Morel, Gibbs cleared the ball off the line after a slice by fellow Gunners defender Per Mertesacker. The left-back and Ramsey were the match’s most admired players as Arsenal repeated the same result that they achieved at the Stade Velodrome in the Champions League a few years ago.

Champions League betting tip: A repeat win by Arsenal is very plausible in this upcoming fixture. Marseille could still find the net for a few occasions, even create plenty of chances, but the English troupe will eventually emerge as the victors in their own turf.
