Champions League Match Preview: Arsenal vs. Borussia Dortmund

Updated: October 17, 2013

Match Date: 22 October 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Emirates Stadium, London

Raking six points from just two matches, Arsenal currently lead the UEFA Champions League Group F. Starting at the play-offs, the side have been emerging as potential picks for online bookies. They defeated the Turkish squad, Fenerbahce, on the two legs they have engaged in. Even more impressive is that both of the matches finished in clean sheets for The Gunners. Aaron Ramsey scored the most goals in those battles, netting three innings out of five. At the group stage, the combined prowess of Ramsey, Ozil, Giroud, and Walcott enabled the club to win over equally outstanding teams, Italian Napoli and French Marseille.

Meanwhile at the English Premier League, Arsène Wenger’s men are on their way to a potential 14th win in the country’s top-flight football. They are currently leading the pack with 16 points under their belt, with triumphs picked up from five fixtures out of seven.

Borussia Dortmund

Kicking off the group stage with a 2-1 away defeat from Napoli, Borussia Dortmund disappointed many of their supporters. The last season’s runners up conceded two goals in the match and scored only one. Although a victory over Marseille was achieved in their second fixture, it was not enough to help them pick up greater points to run atop the rankings. In fact, Die Borussen are now only ranked third in the cluster, which seems to be quite perplexing for a squad touted to be this season’s potential winners.

At the German top-level league, Jürgen Klopp’s men have also slightly lost their power. They were undefeated from match day one to seven, until Mönchengladbach earned a surprise clean sheet and pounded Borussia Dortmund in a 2-0 home victory.

Champions League betting tip: In this round, many football enthusiasts would be excited to watch two highly esteemed clubs clash against each other. Both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund vaunt powerhouse skills and undeniable talents. However, a stalemate by the end of the tourney may not necessarily clad the outcome. Arsenal lead the cluster, and may well continue to do so with a 2-1 home win in this Champions League fixture.
