Sporting CP have never won in the Champions League, although they have already achieved one title in the European Cup Winners’ Cup and were runners up in the 2004-05 UEFA Cup . Chelsea, meanwhile, have won the Champions League title once, which they achieved just three seasons ago.

Sporting CP

Sporting CP are performing relatively lackluster in the Portuguese domestic league as they only rank seventh in the current standings, with a goal difference of +5 and total score of 10 points. Their Champions League Group stage debut was not impressive either, drawing only with Maribor on a 1-1 result. Form-wise, they have spent the bulk of their September fixtures (in all competitions) on stalemates, with only one win breaking the monotony of their streak.

Chelsea were so close at winning their second UEFA title last season, but were denied by Atletico Madrid to advance through the final after only scoring one goal (against three) in the semi-finals. In the current season, they finished their debut in the Group stage level with all other group-mates. In a very rare case, all of the participants in the same group managed to net one goal and earn one point apiece. Additionally, The Blues are proving once more that they are EPL’s best squad as they presently lead the league rankings with three points and five goals to spare.

Champions League betting tip: Chelsea will dominate over Sporting CP. A clean sheet is possible from this meeting.
