Seeded in Group A, Olympiacos and Atletico will vie for spot in the higher rounds of the UEFA Champions League. The sides have never met before, which will make this encounter an interesting one.

Olympiacos Piraeus

The undisputed Superleague Greece frontrunners, Olympiacos are kicking off their campaign for their very first European trophy. The side have only reached the quarter-finals (in 1999) as their best finish in the tournament and they are eyeing a much better position this season. Domestically, Thrylos have an undeniably outstanding form but their recent performances in various competitions have rendered them relatively inconsistent. From their last five matches alone, for example, they scored two victories (against Manchester City in the International Champions Cup and Niki Volos in the Greek top-flight), two draws (with Athletic Club in a friendly and Panaitolikos in the Superleague), and one defeat (to Fenerbahce in a friendly).

Atletico Madrid

The reigning champions of the Spanish La Liga and last season’s runners up of the UEFA competition, Atletico Madrid will make both ends meet to seize the continental victory this time around. They are the top dogs to dominate their group and if their form will be used as gauge as to how well they will fare in the Chmapions League, then they are off to a successful campaign. Los Colchoneros have been unbeaten in their last eight fixtures, which include wins against Wolfsburg in a friendly, Real Madrid in the Super Cup, and Eibar in the Spanish top-flight.

Champions League betting tip: Atletico Madrid will earn a narrow victory against Olympiacos.
