Monaco earned their rightful place in the Champions League after finishing second in Ligue 1 last season, a highly impressive finish considering that they were only newly promoted at the time. Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, finished fourth in Bundesliga and advanced through the Group stage via the play-offs.

AS Monaco

Spending the majority of their Ligue 1 campaign in the winners’ side, Monaco were among the most impressive squads in the French top-tier football last season. Their success resonated towards Summer when they won all their pre-season matches such as in Copa EuroAmericana and the emirates Cup. However, they debuted in the new season with a rather disappointing result. Their first two battles produced zero points and then let go of six goals before they earned a clean sheet against Nantes and a draw with Lille.

Bayer Leverkusen

For their past 11 matches, Bayer Leverkusen have been unbeaten. They most impressive in the DFB Pokal when they scored six goals and conceded none against Alemannia Waldalgesheim. They also debuted in the new Bundesliga season with landslide victories against powerhouse rivals Borussia Dortmund and Hertha Berlin. Last season in the Champions League, they finished second in their group and ended their campaign in the Round of 16b after they were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain.

Champions League betting tip: Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen will share the points.
